A Holistic Approach to Health and Well Being

What Is Reiki? What Can I Expect from a Reiki Session?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique developed toward the end of the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui and was later brought to the West by Hawayo Takata.

Dr. Mikao Usui

The word “Rei” means higher knowledge or spiritual consciousness, and the word “Ki” means life energy.  Reiki is translated to mean “universal life energy”.  The human body has an energy field that is central to its health and proper functioning.  Over time, our energy systems can become blocked which can weaken our energy flow.  Reiki provides many relaxation benefits (much like massage therapy) in reducing stress, stimulating the immune system, increasing energy, and relieving the pain and symptoms of health conditions.

Reiki is becoming more accepted and practiced in modern medicine including hospices, hospitals, and clinics.  It has the potential to address many ailments including sleep disorders, anxiety, unhealthy addictions, migraines, depression, nausea, ADD, and can ease the effects of chemotherapy.  Reiki is very helpful to animals as well for its calming effect and for the treatment of our pets health issues.  Clients who have received Reiki in my practice have shared their feelings of improved mood, relaxation, better sleep patterns, increased energy, a clearness in thinking, and better focus on goals.

A Reiki session includes:

1.   During the session, you remain clothed.  You have the option of lying down on a massage table, sitting in a chair, or standing.  Any areas of trouble or concern are discussed together which better helps me to assess you.  That way, I can focus my energy better to any particular areas of concern during your Reiki session.

2.   I help you move into a relaxed state with your mind and body so your Reiki experience will be one of peace and calming.

3.   A session generally lasts from 30 to 45 minutes.  Various hand positions are learned by the practitioner and are utilized during the session.  Reiki can be performed with hands-on (no sliding movement as in massage) areas at the head, neck, shoulders, knees, and feet or the hands may be held just above the body.  Reiki energy flows out of the palm chakras of the practitioner into the client.  Both the practitioner and client maintain an attitude of awareness, openness, caring, and relaxation during the session.  The client merely needs to relax and allow the Reiki energy to flow.  My goal is to allow you the ability to feel the same peaceful, harmonious state Reiki has provided for me.

A Reiki session can be scheduled for 30-60 minutes based on your individual needs.  Please call or email with any questions you have, to schedule a session, or if you would like more information concerning how you can learn the art of Reiki for the benefit of yourself, your family/loved ones, and your beloved animal companions.

Please note:  Your Reiki session is personal and confidential.  Whatever information is shared during our time together is private and will never be shared with others.
